The words “past” and “passed” collide with the idea of motion and time. “Passed” is simply the past tense form of the word ‘pass’ or to move as in, “We passed the procession on the way home.” On the contrary, the term “past” can be used as a noun, an adjective, an adverb or a preposition, all of which refer to the meaning of an earlier time or something that has happened. For example, “In the past, people lived in caves.”
