Pairwise Alignment in Bioinformatics

Pairwise alignment or pairwise sequence alignment is used to identify regions of similarity which might infer the functional, structural or even phylogenetic relationships between two biological sequences. But this can only be used between two sequences at a time, but they are productive and efficient to compute those relations. The three methods of implementing pairwise alignment are dot-matrix methods, dynamic programming and word methods. Also pairwise alignment helps you to match regions in sequences to identify probable structural and functional similarities. This works on the basis of an algorithm, which will identify the optimal relationship between two sequences that are aligned together. This is done by comparing every letter in sequence 1 with every letter of sequence 2. Please read the presentation to learn more.
