Padayani is an old and traditional ritual art as well as a folk dance. Origin of this art is from the central region of Kerala, mainly Pathanamthitta and Kottayam. This is a ceremonial event which has use of different masks and is usually performed in Bhagavathi temple. The dance form is mainly done to honor the deity, Bhadrakaali. Padayani is similar to Theyyam of Northern Kerala. 'Kolam Thullal' is the main part of this performance.
പടയണി പഴയതും പരമ്പരാഗതവുമായ ഒരു അനുഷ്ഠാന കലയും നാടോടി നൃത്തവുമാണ്. ഈ കലയുടെ ഉത്ഭവം കേരളത്തിന്റെ മധ്യമേഖലയിൽ നിന്നാണ്, പ്രധാനമായും പത്തനംതിട്ട, കോട്ടയം. വ്യത്യസ്ത മുഖംമൂടികൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ചുള്ള ഒരു ആചാരപരമായ കലാ രൂപമായ ഇത്, സാധാരണയായി ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രധാനമായും ഭദ്രകാളിയെ ബഹുമാനിക്കാനാണ് നൃത്തരൂപം ചെയ്യുന്നത്. വടക്കൻ കേരളത്തിലെ തെയ്യത്തിന് സമാനമാണ് പടയണി. 'കോലം തുള്ളൽ' ആണ് ഈ അവതരണത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഭാഗം.
