Presentations | English

Food packaging is defined as enclosing food to protect it from tampering or contamination from physical, chemical and biological sources. It also refers to the process of designing, evaluating and producing packages. It can be described as a coordinated system of preparing goods for transport, warehousing, logistics, sale, and end use. The main function of packaging is to provide protection to the product from dirt, insects, dampness and breakage. The five basic functions of packaging are protection, containment, information, utility of use and promotion. The primary reason for packaging is to makes sure the food retains its flavour and nutrients. Some of the other reasons are traceability, convenience and tamper resistance. Effective materials preserve the chemical, biological and physical nature of the product. Some of the common packaging products include boxes, cartons, cans, bottles, bags, envelopes, wrappers, and containers. The presentation gives better understanding on the topic.
