An ordinal number, also known as an ordinal, is a generalization of ordinal numerals that aims to extend enumeration to infinite sets in set theory. A finite collection's enumeration process consists of labelling each element with the least natural number that has not been used previously. Ordinal numbers are those that describe the location of objects. "The cookies are in the third drawer from the top," "The orange dress is the seventh from the right," and "The soccer ball is in the third carton from the left," for example. All of these sentences have one thing in common: they are all about object positions. This is the most important point to remember when discussing ordinal numbers.
