Nucleic Acids

Presentations | English

Do you know the functions of Nucleic acid? Nucleic acid is an important class of macromolecules found in all cells and viruses. Nucleic acids can be found within the nucleus and cytoplasm of our cells. The functions of nucleic acids have to do with the storage and expression of genetic information. There are two types of nucleic acids: deoxyribonucleic acid, better known as DNA, and ribonucleic acid, better known as RNA. These molecules are composed of long strands of nucleotides held together by covalent bonds. It is found in the nucleus of eukaryotes and the chloroplasts and mitochondria. Nucleic acids are the most important macromolecules for the continuity of life. They carry the genetic blueprint of a cell and carry instructions for the functioning of the cell. DNA is the genetic material found in all living organisms, ranging from single-celled bacteria to multicellular mammals. Nucleic acids are biopolymers essential to all known forms of life.
