Nuclear Power

Presentations | English

Can Nuclear Energy be considered Safe and Clean? Nuclear energy, also called atomic energy, is energy that is released in significant amounts in processes that affect atomic nuclei, the dense cores of atoms. Nuclear power is the use of nuclear reactions to produce electricity. Nuclear power can be obtained from nuclear fission, nuclear decay, and nuclear fusion reactions. Presently, the vast majority of electricity from nuclear power is produced by nuclear fission of uranium and plutonium in nuclear power plants. Nuclear energy originates from the splitting of uranium atoms – a process called fission. This generates heat to produce steam, which is used by a turbine generator to generate electricity. Because nuclear power plants do not burn fuel, they do not produce greenhouse gas emissions. Nuclear power is a safe means of generating electricity. The risk of accidents in nuclear power plants is low and declining. Nuclear is a zero-emission clean energy source. Nuclear power is clean, efficient, and effective. Nuclear power does not discharge harmful emissions into the environment like coal and oil.
