International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) recommends a method of naming organic chemical compounds. The structural formula of comounds—cyclic, closed chain compounds, acyclic and open chain compounds—can be understood by these names, or rather, based on the various principles that govern the structural composition of compounds, they are given these IUPAC names. This technical PPT gives us an idea of how organic componds are named.
