Aviation Law covers all areas of airline, aircraft, and airport operations. Among the most important ones are those on airline liability. The Montreal Convention of 1999 aimed to replace the Warsaw Convention of 1929. Warsaw convention was one of the most widely used conventions which governed the liability of airlines in case of injury or death of passengers and damage to baggage and cargo on international commercial air transportation. Being in a place for nearly 70 years, Warsaw Convention needed to be replaced with a more up-to-date one, keeping in mind the rapid advances in air transportation over the decades. While it came into effect in 2003, some countries are yet to ratify the same. India ratified it in 2009 Montreal Convention is a much more progressive one than the Warsaw regime. The compensation amounts payable in case of death and injury have been revised significantly upwards compared to the relatively lower ones mandated in the Warsaw convention.
