Models of Communication

Presentations | English

Theoretical models used to explain the process of human communication. First model proposed by Shannon and Weaver, which was a three part model which was meant to capture radio and television transmission. Later, it was adapted for human communication and was called as linear model of communication. The three parts are sender, channel and receiver and communication happens only in one direction, which is the considered as a drawback. Transactional model evolved after linear, which is one of the useful model to understand public speaking. In this, communication is seen as circular process and it has number of independent processes and components along with encoding and decoding. Interactional model follow two channels where communication and feedback flow happens between sender and receiver. Feedback can be verbal or non verbal, is simply a response from receiver to sender. This model views communicating as an ongoing process. More details can be obtained from the PowerPoint presentation.
