Microbiology of Water

Presentations | English

We are aware that without water life on Earth would be impossible. It’s very essential for all our life activities. The microbiology of water is about the microorganisms that thrive in water. That includes bacteria, fungi, parasite, virus, protozoa and archaea. These organisms can cause diseases and can be life threatening. Sometimes the fecal matter of animals comes in contact with water and this can have bacteria named E. coli that contaminates the water. Similarly, rotavirus and enteroviruses contaminate water from fecal matter. Two protozoa of most concern are giardia and cryptosporidium. They are resistant to chlorine and can reach humans via drinking water. This can be fatal to people who have low immunity. Even in saltwater microorganisms are found such as bacteria, cyanobacteria, protozoa, algae, etc. Even in freshwater a lot of microorganisms live like photosynthetic algae and bacteria. Let's have a detailed analysis about this topic. Have a look into the PowerPoint presentation.
