Are metal detectors a way to improve school safety? There aren't many federal laws that deal with school safety. Therefore, it is up to schools to take the lead in offering security to the faculty and students. In reality, the 1989–1990 school year saw the introduction of metal detectors in a Detroit high school. They are by no means a novel idea, but given how frequent school shootings have grown, their potential use is being reconsidered. In order to prevent violence, metal detectors are used in educational facilities. To successfully protect their pupils while using the facilities, many educational institutions now deploy a combination of detectors and security cameras. For further information, see this PPT.
