"Melam Melam is a temple orchestra that includes mainly woodwind, percussion, and brass musical instruments. It is predominantly associated with temple rituals and festivals in the South Indian states of Tamilnadu and Kerala. Variations of melam includes Kovil melam, neyyandi melam, urumi melam, ketti melam used for marriage functions, and paraya melam associated with funeral functions. The most common melam used for functions outside of the temples is the pandimelam. Pancharimelam is the most traditionally popular melam used mainly for nonritualistic occasions, though it is also used for temple functions."
"മേളം:- മേളം എന്നത് തമിഴ്നാട്, കേരളം, ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയുടെ ചില ഭാഗങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് മാത്രമുള്ള ഒരു തരം താളവാദ്യമാണ്. മേളം കളിക്കുന്നവരെ 'മേളക്കാർ' എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നു. പുരാതന തമിഴകത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലെ എല്ലാ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിലും (കോവിൽ മേളം, നൈയാണ്ടി മേളം, ഉറുമി മേളം),വിവാഹം (കെട്ടി മേളം), ചടങ്ങുകൾ, ശവസംസ്കാര ഉണർവ് ( പറയ് മേളം). കേരളത്തിൽ പൊതുവെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് പുറത്ത് അവതരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന പാണ്ടിമേളമാണ് എല്ലാ മേളങ്ങളിലും ഏറ്റവും പരമ്പരാഗതമായത്. മറ്റൊരു മേളം പഞ്ചാരി മേളം എന്ന് വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു, ഇത് പാണ്ടിമേളത്തിന് സമാനമാണ്, എന്നാൽ പഞ്ചാരി മേളം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനുള്ളിൽ കളിക്കുന്നു."
