Medicinal Plants in Kerala

"Ayurveda has a significant influence in the people of Kerala. The state has a wide spectrum of medicinal plants. Recent studies points out that out of estimated 4600 flowering plants, about 900 possess medicinal values. Over half of the species occur in forest ecosystems. The medicinal pants indigenous to Kerala plays a significant to Indian school of Medicine like Ayurveda and Sidha. The tribal communities that reside in and near the forest area use over 2000 species of lesser-known wild plants for various medicinal uses. The major medicinal plants found in the forests of Kerala are Asparagus racemosus, Solanum anguivi, Desmodium gangeticum, Cissus quadrangularis, Psuedartheria viscida, Strobilanthes ciliatus, Dysoxylum malabaricum, Piper longum, Aristolochia indica, Ceasalpinia bonduc, Tribulus terrestris, Sarcostemma acidum, Baliospermum montanum, Aristolochia bracteolata etc. Download the presentation Medicinal Plants in Kerala for more information"
