Mechanics of Particle

Presentations | English

The type of particle is defined by properties that define how it interacts: mass (gravity) & charge (electromagnetism). At the subatomic level, there are generalisations of charge that describe interactions with short-range forces, but then quantum effects become important. Mechanics of particle is the science concerned with the motion of particles under the action of forces, including the special case in which a body remains at rest. Given the forces, one can seek the manner in which bodies move under the action of forces; this is the subject matter of mechanics. The word particle has been used here to signify an object whose entire mass is concentrated at a point in space. Therefore, the science of mechanics must deal not only with particles but also with more complex bodies that may be thought of as collections of particles. Classical mechanics is a physical theory describing the motion of macroscopic objects, from projectiles to parts of machinery and astronomical objects, such as spacecraft, planets, stars and galaxies.
