Mass Media

Mass media is communication -whether written, broadcast, or spoken- that reaches a large audience. It can refer to a diverse array of media technologies that reach a large audience via mass communication. The technologies through which this communication takes place include a variety of outlets. This includes television, radio, advertising, movies, the Internet, books newspapers, magazines, billboards, placards and so on. Event organizing and public speaking can also be considered forms of mass media. The organizations that control these technologies, such as movie studios, publishing companies, and radio and television stations, are also known as the mass media. Mass media has tremendous influence on the society and it is an engaging field of critical studies. It can be used for: 1) Advocacy, both for business and social concerns 2) Entertainment and 3) Public service announcements and emergency alerts (that can be used as political device to communicate propaganda to the public).
