"A management information system (MIS) is a computer system consisting of hardware and software that serves as the backbone of an organization's operations. An MIS gathers data from multiple online systems, analyses the information, and reports data to aid in management decision-making. It is an information system used for decision-making, and for the coordination, control, analysis, and visualization of information in an organization and marketing. The study of the management information systems involves people, processes and technology in an organizational context. The MIS plays the role of information generation, communication, problem identification and helps in the process of decision-making. It therefore, plays a vital role in the management, administration and operation of an organization. The three main categories of information system that serve at different organizational levels are Operation level systems, management level systems and strategic level systems.
