The Mamankam festival was held every 12 years in Thirunavaya, Kerala, on the banks of the Bharathappuzha River. For 28 days, we celebrated. There are numerous folklores and myths associated with the river and the deities and temples that line its banks. The river's banks have witnessed many historical events, including the Mamankam festival, which was held once every 12 years during the reign of the Zamorin. The Mamankam festival is said to have been held on the banks of the Bharathappuzha River, within the grounds of the famous Thirunnavaya Temple. To this day, the Thirunnavaya temple is a major shrine among Hindus who believe in the final rites of their loved ones. According to historians, Mamankam in Kerala was one of the world's grandest festivals. The Mamankam festival drew traders, customers, and tourists from all over the world.
മാമാങ്കം: കേരളത്തിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ചരിത്രകാലത്തിനു മുൻപു മുതൽ പന്ത്രണ്ടു വർഷത്തിലൊരിക്കൽ നടന്നിരുന്ന ബൃഹത്തായ നദീതീര ഉത്സവമായിരുന്നു മാമാങ്കം. ഭാരതപ്പുഴയുടെ തീരത്ത് ഇന്നത്തെ മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലയിലെ തിരൂരിന് ഏഴു കിലോമീറ്റർ തെക്കുമാറിയുള്ള തിരുനാവായ എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തായിരുന്നു മാമാങ്കം അരങ്ങേറിയിരുന്നത്. മാമാങ്കത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തിനെ കുറിച്ച് ചരിത്രഗവേഷകരിൽ തന്നെ വ്യത്യസ്ത അഭിപ്രായമാണുള്ളത്. മകരമാസത്തിലെ കറുത്തവാവിനും, കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ കറുത്ത വാവിനും ഇടയിലെ മകം നാളിലാണ് മാമാങ്കം നടത്തിയിരുന്നത്.
