The name NTR brings to memory not just the person, but a powerful personality, great facial expressions, perfect articulation of Telugu words, and unparalleled mannerisms. He made his acting debut in 1949, in the Telugu social film "Mana Desam" directed by LV Prasad. A couple of years earlier, in 1947, he joined the Madras Service Commission as Sub-Registrar in Guntur District. Even though it was a good job, he quit it within weeks and devoted himself to acting.
