Medical condition which involves disability to understand language, coordinate movement, or do mathematical calculations. This occurs in younger age, but can be only recognized once the child reaches school age. It is caused mainly due to genetic or neurobiological factors which can affect the functioning of brain, mainly the cognitive processes that induce learning. It can cause problems with basic skills like reading and writing. Apart from learning, this can affect the wellness of an individual beyond academics. It’s a lifelong challenge which has no cure. But with special training and support these people can succeed in life. Types of learning disability include: dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyslexia, non-verbal learning disability etc. It should not be confused with disorders like autism, intellectual disability, behavioral disorders, blindness or deafness.
