Sathyan Anthikkad directed and Prathap produced Gaayathridevi Ente Amma, a 1985 Indian Malayalam film directed by Sathyan Anthikkad and produced by Prathap.S Pavamani and Leela Raghunath starring Rahman and Seema, with Bharath Gopi, M. G. Soman, Rohini, Ashokan, and Sukumari in supporting roles. Sathyan Anthikad is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and lyricist best known for his family dramas in Malayalam cinema. He wrote the lyrics for this song. Samuel Joseph, better known as Shyam is a Malayalam music composer from Tamil Nadu, India who composed music for this song. Appu's (Rahman) father tells him that his mother is no longer alive and this song shows the boys agony without having the affection of a mother.
പി സുശീല ആലപിച്ച ഗായത്രിദേവി എന്റെ അമ്മ എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ ഒരു ഗാനമാണ് "കുഞ്ഞിളം ചുണ്ടിൽ പുഞ്ചിരി കാണാൻ" എന്നു തുടങ്ങുന്ന ഈ ഗാനം. ഭരത് ഗോപി, എം ജി സോമൻ, രോഹിണി, അശോകൻ, സുകുമാരി എന്നിവർക്കൊപ്പം സത്യൻ അന്തിക്കാട് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്യുകയും പ്രതാപ് നിർമ്മിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. മലയാള സിനിമയിലെ കുടുംബ നാടകങ്ങളിലൂടെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ ചലച്ചിത്ര സംവിധായകനും തിരക്കഥാകൃത്തും ഗാനരചയിതാവുമാണ് സത്യൻ അന്തിക്കാട്. ഈ ഗാനത്തിന്റെ വരികൾ എഴുതിയത് അദ്ദേഹമാണ്. ശ്യാം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന സാമുവൽ ജോസഫ്, ഈ ഗാനത്തിന് സംഗീതം നൽകിയ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ തമിഴ്നാട്ടിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഒരു മലയാളം സംഗീതസംവിധായകനാണ്. അപ്പുവിന്റെ (റഹ്മാൻ) അച്ഛൻ അവനോട് തന്റെ അമ്മ ഇപ്പോൾ ജീവിച്ചിരിപ്പില്ലെന്നും ഈ ഗാനം ഒരു അമ്മയുടെ വാത്സല്യമില്ലാതെ വളരുന്ന ആൺകുട്ടികളുടെ വേദന കാണിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. അതിനാൽ തന്നെ ഇതൊരു ഹൃദയസ്പർശിയായ ഗാനമാണ്.
