Kandathiparambil Paapu Karuppan, also known as Pandit Karuppan Master or K.P. Karuppan, was a crusader against untouchability and other social evils that were prevalent at the time. Karuppan Master was dubbed the "Lincoln of Kerala" for his tireless efforts to uplift the socially, economically, and educationally backward communities. He was the first human rights activist from the state of Cochin. He was also a well-known Sanskrit scholar, poet, and playwright. He used his organisational skills and literary ability to combat illiteracy, social injustice, casteism, and superstitions. Karuppan Master was a Hindu fisherman from the Dheevara community. Karuppan Master was a driving force behind many reforms, including the establishment of schools and colonies. He persuaded the government to provide scholarships and fee reductions. In order to raise public awareness about superstitions, he wrote Aacharabhooshanam, which was printed and distributed by the government.
