Kothammuriyattam or Kothariyattam is a traditional art form that existed in the far north of Kerala, especially in Kolathunadu. In the villages of Kolathu, this folk dance was performed by the Theyyam performers during the Malayalam months of Thulam and Vrishikam. Kothammuri is a "home-made" or 'Vidodi' art form that is very close to the rituals of fertility. Starting from the main temple of the village, Kothamuri regularly goes to all the houses in the area and performs Kothamuriyattam there. When Kothammuri arrives, a lamp, a plate, a jug, and a paddy field will be prepared to receive at home. As soon as they reach home, Kothammuri and Paniyan will surround it. Then the songs will be sung. It is an art associated with worship. It is one of the most endangered folk art forms.
