Kaaveri Thalakkaaveri is a song sung by P. Leela, P. Madhuri and C. O. Anto from the movie Ponni. The music was composed by G. Devarajan with lyrics by P. Bhaskaran. Ponni is a 1976 Indian Malayalam-language film written and directed by Thoppil Bhasi and based on the novel of the same name by Malayattoor Ramakrishnan. M. O Joseph produced the film under the Manjilas banner, with cinematography by Balu Mahendra and editing by M. S. Mani. Kamal Haasan and Lakshmi star in the film, which also features M. G. Soman, Adoor Bhasi, Sankaradi, Janardhanan, and Rajakumari in supporting roles. Kollimalai Maaveeran was the Tamil title, and Kondaraju Koyapilla was the Telugu title. The story was written based on genuine stories that Malayattoor heard while working as a sub-collector in Ottappalam. The film was shot in the Palakkad forest area.
പൊന്നി എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ പി.ലീല, പി.മാധുരി, സി.ഒ.ആന്റോ എന്നിവർ ചേർന്ന് ആലപിച്ച ഗാനമാണ് "കാവേരി തലക്കാവേരി". പി.ഭാസ്കരന്റെ വരികൾക്ക് ജി.ദേവരാജനാണ് സംഗീതം നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. മലയാറ്റൂർ രാമകൃഷ്ണന്റെ അതേ പേരിലുള്ള നോവലിനെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി തോപ്പിൽ ഭാസി രചനയും സംവിധാനവും നിർവഹിച്ച് 1976-ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഒരു ഇന്ത്യൻ മലയാളം ഭാഷാ ചിത്രമാണ് പൊന്നി. മഞ്ഞിലാസ് ബാനറിൽ എം ഒ ജോസഫാണ് ചിത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ചത്, ബാലു മഹേന്ദ്ര ഛായാഗ്രഹണവും എം എസ് മണി എഡിറ്റിംഗും നിർവ്വഹിച്ചു. എം ജി സോമൻ, അടൂർ ഭാസി, ശങ്കരാടി, ജനാർദനൻ, രാജകുമാരി എന്നിവരും ചിത്രത്തിൽ കമൽഹാസനും ലക്ഷ്മിയും അഭിനയിക്കുന്നു. കൊല്ലിമല മാവീരൻ എന്നായിരുന്നു തമിഴ്, കൊണ്ടരാജു കോയപിള്ള എന്നായിരുന്നു തെലുങ്ക്. ഒറ്റപ്പാലത്ത് സബ്കളക്ടറായിരിക്കെ മലയാറ്റൂർ കേട്ടറിഞ്ഞ യഥാർത്ഥ കഥകളെ ആസ്പദമാക്കിയാണ് കഥ എഴുതിയത്. പാലക്കാട് വനമേഖലയിലായിരുന്നു സിനിമയുടെ ചിത്രീകരണം.
