The Book of Jonah is part of the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, as Christians call it. It ranks fifth in most biblical texts and fifth in the "Minor Prophets" classification, which includes 12 minor prophecies. The story is set during the supremacy of Jeroboam II (786-746 BC) in historical Israel. It must have been in the late fifth or early fourth century. This work has an extremely fascinating history of commentary dissipating through prominent children’s stories. The book of Jonah, which illustrates God's will to forgive apologetic ones, is a farewell reading for the Jews at the verge of the evening service at Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. It tells the story of God-appointed prophet Jonah, who foretold the devastation of Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian Empire. Rather than the divine revelations indicated by the Prophet, this book fluctuates from the prophetic books in that it includes the story of the Prophet's inner confrontations and his relationship with God and the Prophet.
