Diagnostic medical sonographers, also known as ultrasound technicians, help doctors and other health care professionals assess and identify a patient’s medical conditions. These professionals use imaging equipment that produces high-frequency waves to record images or conduct tests on many parts of the body. An ultrasound or sonography is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to scan the internal organs of the body – woman’s abdomen and pelvic cavity, the reproductive system and the foetus of a pregnant woman creating a picture (sonogram) of the baby and placenta. A diagnostic medical sonographer, also known simply as a sonographer, uses imaging equipment and sound waves to form images of many parts of the body, known as ultrasounds. They are trained to acquire and analyse these sonographic images. These images are used to help doctors diagnose and treat many medical conditions.
