A surgical coordinator performs administrative duties at a surgical clinic or hospital. The surgical coordinator is responsible for processing incoming patients, answering the telephones, filling out and filing paperwork, and scheduling all aspects of patients’ surgical procedures. A surgical coordinator performs administrative duties relevant to surgical operations. This includes surgery scheduling, keeping patient records, entering post-surgical data and scheduling surgical equipment. It may also include other administrative duties as needed. Depending on the size of their employer, Surgical Coordinators solely focus on coordinating surgeries, or they may also serve as office managers for surgical offices. They can also work for hospitals or coordinate surgeries for a number of hospitals in one network. Surgical coordinators help ensure adequate preparation for surgery. They help prepare the facility by ensuring that necessary equipment is scheduled and in the correct room and by continually maintaining surgical inventory. They also help prepare the patient for surgery and answer questions or address concerns beforehand.
