The Mental Health Counsellor will counsel individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. The Mental Health Counsellor will help individuals deal with thoughts of suicide; addictions and substance abuse; family, parenting, and marital problems; stress management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated. Mental health counsellors are qualified professionals who specialize in psychotherapy and intervention methods to help people living with mental health challenges. Their duties are not limited to managing psychiatric disorders, as they also assist those with emotional distress and addiction disorders. They may work in public or private institutions. The legal definition of a counsellor, and hence the legal scope of practice, varies with jurisdiction. In some jurisdictions across the United States, counsellors, marriage and family therapists, and psychologists have virtually identical definitions: evaluating and treating mental and behavioural disorders.
