Job Descriptions - Hospital Sitter

Templates | English

A patient sitter in a hospital or other health care facility who is trained to observe and assist patients with psychological problems or who may otherwise be a danger to themselves or others. Patient sitters work in hospitals or nursing homes, observing and monitoring the health of patients under the supervision of professional nurses. This position entails a variety of responsibilities, such as keeping track of the patient's food and beverage consumption, reporting changes to senior staff, assisting patients with walking and moving in and out of bed, and assisting them with eating and dressing. Patient sitters typically work full-time, but shift work is widespread because nursing homes and hospitals provide round-the-clock care, thus they may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. People who are caring and sensitive, like assisting others, and have outstanding interpersonal skills are ideal candidates for this position. The hospital sitter will assist patients' family and loved ones by sitting with hostile, upset, dying, or suicidal patients, as well as those who are at risk of falling. You'll administer care in a way that calms patients, keep an eye out for changes in their condition, and call for help when necessary. You're not going to do any unauthorised work. To be effective in this profession, you must be knowledgeable and adaptable in order to comprehend and respond to particular clients' emotional states and attitudes.
