Job Descriptions - Geriatrician

Templates | English

Geriatricians are primary care doctors who have additional training in treating older adults, especially those 65 and up. People in that age range often have multiple or complex health matters and need specialized care. Geriatric doctors have the training and experience needed to address these issues. Geriatricians can be a primary care doctor, a consultant, or work as part of a team of doctors and caretakers for older adults. They have the same training as regular primary care doctors, with usually one to two years extra of specialized geriatric education and training. Geriatricians recently defined five major areas for structuring care for older persons. They are as follows: Mobility: Recognize mobility concerns and learn about the causes of falls and how to avoid them. Medicine: Keep track of your medication intake, especially if you're taking different prescriptions. Mind: Gain a better understanding of how the mind affects cognitive, affective, and behavioural health. Multicomplexity: Take care of older persons who have complex or chronic illnesses. Before specialising in geriatric care, geriatricians have the same education and training as primary care doctors. They could spend anywhere from seven to fifteen years in school before becoming permitted to practise medicine on their own, depending on their programme.
