Traffic guards, also known as traffic controllers and flaggers, are trained to set up warning signs and barricades to slow down the speed of traffic in a temporary traffic control zone. When they are on scene they will set up equipment to warn approaching traffic about the incident. On each run, Flagger calls the web hooks, checks the metrics and if the failed checks threshold is reached, stops the analysis and rolls back the canary. If alerting is configured, Flagger will post the analysis result using the alert providers. It reduces the risk of introducing a new software version in production by gradually shifting traffic to the new version while measuring metrics and running conformance tests. Progressive delivery is a practice that allows organizations to control how and when new software features or changes are delivered. It builds on the capabilities and practices of feature flag management and deployment strategies like blue-green and canary deployments.
