A dentist is a physician that works diagnosing and treating problems concerning patient's teeth and gums. They provide regular check-ups and cleanings in addition to more detailed procedures like root canals or installing braces. A dentist is located in a dental medical facility and is usually an independent practice or small to medium business. They also complete x-rays in the office as well as evaluations for more extensive orthodontic procedures. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy. General dentist duties include conducting oral screenings to identify diseases and infections; removing tooth decay and plaque and applying prosthetics, sealers and whiteners. Some of the responsibilities of dentist include examining patients’ medical records; preparing patients for treatment; checking teeth, gums and other parts of the mouth; cleaning teeth and removing plaque etc.
