A demolition worker is a type of construction worker that tears down old structures and buildings, cleans away the old materials, and prepares the area for new construction. As a demolition worker, your typical job duties involve operating heavy equipment such as wrecking balls and bulldozers to demolish the building. As a Demolition Labourer your responsibilities include loading and unloading debris and waste onto and off trucks, refilling excavated holes and ditches, as well as building and dismantling scaffolding and temporary structures. The work of a demolition worker is physically demanding so strength and stamina are two key skills to have. You will be on your feet handling heavy tools, carrying materials, and operating heavy equipment. You will also need to have great hand-eye coordination and good vision to do the job. While there are no formal qualifications needed to become a demolition operative, there are several routes you could take to help you pursue this career. You can complete an apprenticeship or apply directly to an employer for work.
