A credentialing coordinator performs administrative tasks relating to healthcare practitioner credentialing. They ensure that all employees at a medical centre, hospital, or other healthcare facility have the proper certification, license, or credential to practice. Credentialing coordinators work for healthcare facilities such as clinics and hospitals. They are also known as credentialing specialist or medical credentialing coordinator. Their responsibilities include processing initial credentialing and re-credentialing applications; screening practitioners’ applications and supporting documentation to ascertain their eligibility; collecting information from the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), the applicant and their malpractice insurer, and other relevant sources; identifying discrepancies in information and conducting follow-ups; presenting applications to the facility’s Credentialing Committee; assisting customers with credentialing inquiries; capturing primary source documentation in computer databases; ensuring data is backed up and so on.
