Crane operators are responsible for lifting and moving materials around a construction site as safely and efficiently as possible. As a crane driver you would need to be practically-minded, with an understanding of how to drive and maintain heavy machinery. The Crane Operator is responsible for operating a mobile crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. The Operator controls crane functions by depressing buttons and foot pedals as well as manipulating levers. The Operator will be required to unload crane accessories from trailers or support vehicles. They transport objects using a crane, or multiple types of cranes, and spend most of their days inside cranes—and that can get very uncomfortable. A crane operator needs to have good physical strength, reflexes, and manual dexterity. Choosing to pursue a career as a crane operator can be an excellent career choice if you know where to begin. The fact is that it’s a competitive industry, and there will be many qualified candidates jostling for the same positions you are.
