The Chief Medical Officer, often known as the Chief Health Officer, is now on the frontlines guiding corporations in their coronavirus response activities. While the function is not new to individuals working in public and private health care, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, the CMO's impact is increasingly expanding outside the clinical area. CMOs have been found across a wide range of industries, from food manufacturing to hospitality to sports and entertainment, as a result of the epidemic. When it comes to filtering through material on COVID-19 and translating down ideas into plain language, CMOs are critical. Given the flow of fresh (and sometimes contradictory) data, this is a critical role. When there appears to be opposition from the workforce or the broader public to health and safety requirements, it is up to CMOs to put the record straight and investigate any infractions.
