The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for general operation of individual schools and the district. This includes, but is not limited to, various programs, policy and procedure, special projects, business services and technology. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) is still in use in India where the officer holding this rank is from Indian Police Service. However, assistant superintendent of police is a probationary rank (till the second year of the career of an IPS officer). If the supervisor is an assistant superintendent, the associate superintendent will serve as the assistant superintendent. Assistant Superintendent means the Assistant Superintendent, Business Support Services of the School District or his or her designee. School Boards employ a superintendent to lead and manage the school district and to serve as the chief executive officer of the school system. Superintendents are responsible for the management of the schools, the administration of all school board policies, and are directly accountable to the school board.
