An anesthesiologist is a doctor who administers drugs to patients so they do not experience pain during surgery. These specialised physicians, however, have a considerably broader role than simply putting individuals to sleep for surgery. They are also involved in a variety of other medical operations, such as doing evaluations in critical care units, dealing with emergency circumstances, and providing pain management recommendations. Anesthesiologists are engaged in over 90% of the more than 40 million surgical operations performed under anaesthesia in the United States each year. This engagement may include direct patient treatment or oversight of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) or Anesthesia Assistants, all of whom play important roles in the profession. The anesthesiologist manages pain before, during, and after surgery, but they also play a variety of other vital responsibilities.
