Jenkins is an open-source automation server tool. It facilitates automation of parts of software development associated with construction, testing, and deployment, and facilitates continuous integration and continuous delivery. Written in Java, Jenkins Apache works in a servlet container similar to TomCat or stand-alone mode with its downward web server. It interfaces with version controls such as CVS, JIT, and subversion, and runs projects based on Apache and Apache Maven and unrestricted scripts in the Unix shell or Windows batch. Generations of programs can be initiated through various means, such as scheduling mechanisms such as Cron, intergenerational dependency systems, or queries on specific URLs. Jenkins was originally named Hudson and was renamed in 2011 following a dispute between its author, Kohsuke Kawaguchi, and Oracle, which evacuated the project and claimed the rights to the project. Hudson, a branch of Oracle, developed the eclipse shortly before donating to the foundation. Hudson is currently out of date and was declared obsolete in February 2017. By 2008, Hudson had become a popular replacement for the cruise control benchmark tool. On January 11, 2011, Oracle declared openly a proposal to change Hudson's name to avoid possible registration issues. Following the failure of negotiations with Oracle, a vote in favour of the name change was confirmed on January 29, 2011. On April 20, 2016, version 2.0 was released using the default activated Pipelineplugin. This plugin allows you to write build instructions using a specific domain language based on Apache Groovy.
