IPL stands for Indian Premier League. It is a professional Twenty20 cricket league started in 2008 by BCCI. It happens every year in India, contested by eight teams based out of eight different Indian cities. It is usually held between March and May of every year and has an exclusive window in the ICC Future Tours Programme. IPL is a tournament that aims to promote Cricket in India and to provide a platform for the local players to get international exposure. It also aims to provide the best possible environment for nurturing local talents into professionals and to provide enormous entertainment to the Cricket Fans in India and all over the world. With the advent of the IPL, almost overnight the world’s best cricketers became millionaires. The owners of the IPL franchises, who include major companies, Bollywood film stars, and media moguls, bid for the best players in auctions organized by the league. It is the most watched cricket league in the world and every season contributes about 5–10 billion to GDP of the Indian Economy. There have been thirteen seasons of the IPL tournament so far.
