Invention of the Aeroplane

Presentations | English

An airplane or aeroplane (informally plane) is a fixed-wing aircraft that is propelled forward by thrust from a jet engine, propeller, or rocket engine. The Wright brothers invented and flew the first airplane in 1903, recognized as the first sustained and controlled heavier than air powered flight. On December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright made four brief flights at Kitty Hawk with their first powered aircraft. The Wright brother had invented the first successful aeroplane. Airplanes come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and wing configurations. Important landmarks and events along the way to the invention of the airplane include an understanding of the dynamic reaction of lifting surfaces (or wings), building absolutely reliable engines that produced sufficient power to propel an airframe, and solving the problem of flight control in three dimensions. The presentation will give more details on the topic.
