Introduction to Bacteria

Presentations | English

Why bacteria is important in our life? Bacteria are the most abundant form of life on the planet. Bacteria help many animals to digest food, they help trees grow, and they are important in the recycling of nutrients in the environment. They are also used in biotechnology applications to produce everything from food to energy to clean water. Bacteria, also called germs, are microscopic organisms not visible with the naked eye. Bacteria are everywhere, both inside and outside of your body. Bacteria lack many of the structures that eukaryotic cells contain. For example, they don’t have a nucleus. They also lack membrane-bound organelles, such as mitochondria or chloroplasts. Bacteria can live in a variety of environments, from hot water to ice. Some bacteria are good for you, while others can make you sick. Scientist study bacterial communities inside us to better understand health and disease. Changes in these microbial communities may be responsible for digestive disorders, skin diseases, gum disease and even obesity.
