Internet slang (also known as Internet shorthand, cyber-slang, netspeak, digispeak, or chatspeak) is a non-standard or unofficial form of communication used by people on the Internet. [1] "LOL," which stands for "laugh out loud," is an example of Internet slang. It's difficult to give a standardised definition of Internet slang because it changes so frequently. [2] It can, however, be interpreted to refer to any type of slang that Internet users have popularised, and in some cases, coined. These terms are frequently used to save keystrokes or to compensate for small character limits.
