Interesting Facts About Angela Merkel

Presentations | English

Despite of her aversion towards dogs, Angela Markel is arguably the most powerful woman in the world. Born on the 17th of July, 1954 in West Germany, Angela Dorothea Kasner was the first ever female Chancellor of Germany in the year 2005 and is currently serving her fourth term. She has often been described as the “de facto leader of the European Union” during her tenure of Chancellorship. In 1986, Markel attained a PhD in quantum chemistry and later worked as a research scientist until before she stepped down in 1989. The beginning of the Revolutions of 1989 marked her entry into the field of politics. She initially served as a deputy spokesperson for the Government of Eat Germany after which she was elected to the Bundestag for the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. She was hence given the position as the Minister for Women and Youth and later the Minister for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, in the years 1991 and 1994, respectively.
