Indo - Anglian Literature

The Indo - Anglian Literature concerns the genre of literature where the text is written in the English language by and Indian author. Therefore, this genre of literature is deeply associated with that of Indian English and the Indian English literature. Individuals who started the genre mostly wrote about themes based historically or had social importance. Another type of work much noticed was of detective themed plots. Legendary writer such as R K Narayan, Mulk Raj, Kamala Markandaya and Raja Rao were pioneers of the contemporary Indian English literature. R K Narayan’s stories such ’Malgudi Days’ and ‘Swami and Friends’ will always remain classics. These writers were just some of the successful Indo – Anglian fiction writers and they encouraged other writers to join through their marvellous works. Mulk Raj Anand, Nirad Chaudhuri, Raja Rao and R. K. Narayan have been called the ‘four wheels of contemporary Indo Anglian fiction’.
