Every year on December 10th, Human Rights Day commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. We are all empowered by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Declaration's principles are just as relevant today as they were in 1948. We must fight for our own rights as well as the rights of others. We can take action in our daily lives to defend the rights that protect us all and, as a result, promote human kinship. UNESCO was the first United Nations agency to put the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the centre of all its work, promoting it around the world through education and the media, in December 1948.
