People who have fled war, violence, conflict, or persecution and crossed an international border in search of safety in another country are known as refugees. When individuals flee conflict and persecution, they leave everything behind as they flee for their lives—their families are torn apart, and their homes and jobs are lost. There are numerous organisations, groups, and volunteers who support and assist refugees in becoming comfortable and safe.
