History of The King Cheras

The Chera Dyansty had their first capital at Karoor and Musiris in the early historic period. The Cheran kingdoms of Mahodayapuram in Kodungallur of Kerala, was classified as the Earlier Cheras and is crowned as one of the three crowned kings of Tamilakam: Chola, Chera and Pandiya. Vel Kezhu Kottuvan, also known as Chenguttuvan Chera, is one of the most powerful kings of Cheran dynasty. The king Rajasimha is believed to be the first king of Chera dynasty. The dynasty had Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism as their regional religions, in which the Hinduism was their official religion. They spoke Tamil, Malayalam and Sanskrit and is believed to have lineage over Kerala and Tamil Nadu now. After the Chola dynasty and Pandiya dynasty, another important dynasty with principal lineages is the Chera Dynasty. Their national flag consisted of the picture of a bow and arrow in a yellow background, which was also used in their Sangam coins. After the Cholas of uraiyur and Pandiyas of Madurai, the Cheras had the most power during ancient period. They had their territory over smaller areas, including almost every part of Kerala of South India and some regions of present day Tamil Nadu.
