There’s an enormous number of organisms living in the world, some cannot even be seen with our naked eye, which are called as microorganisms and their study is microbiology. The existence of the microbes was only known to the world after the invention of microscope. Anton Van Leeuwenhoek invented a simple microscope and viewed the bacteria from his teeth scrap. Louis Pasteur coined the term 'microbiology' and discovered the role of anaerobic bacteria in the fermentation of sugar. Alexander Fleming's invention of antibiotic penicillin was based on his study about bacterial activities in blood and their response towards antibiotics. The scope of these subjects are in various fields such as biotechnology, agriculture, industry, medicine etc. By bioremediation pollution can be controlled using microbes.
