Every year on August 6, Hiroshima Day is commemorated to promote peace politics and raise awareness of the effects of the bombing of Hiroshima. On August 6, 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, killing thousands of people instantly. The atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, took place 76 years ago today. It was the first city in the world to be hit by a nuclear weapon. This day is significant because it is marked by anti-war and anti-nuclear protests in a number of countries. People visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum on this day to learn about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima during WWII.
